SUMMARY
General Construction Carpenters report to the Superintendent and provide support throughout a construction project. The person in this position needs to have the ability to be flexible as this position may perform various functions throughout a shift. The person in this position will need to be comfortable working in a public setting. Jostin requires all employees to work collaboratively as a team with other Jostin employees and trade partners.
Jostin is currently hiring for all 3 levels (1,2, &3) of General Construction Carpenters in Cincinnati and Lexington. Please see the preferred knowledge, skills, and qualifications for each level below.
GENERAL CONSTRUCTION CARPENTER 1
A General Construction Carpenter 1 requires the mastering of the laborer classification skill set. Below are requirements for knowledge and skills for this level of General Construction Carpenter.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of general contracting
- Knowledge of power tools
- Knowledge of safety procedures and best practices on a construction site
- Knowledge of general trade work
Skills:
- Properly align walls
- Visualize wall layouts
- Perform exterior/interior wall blocking
- Be comfortable working in public settings
- Ability to operate various power tools in a safe manner
- Ability to install and troubleshoot doors/frames and hardware
- Ability to understand detailed instructions on proper installation techniques of various finished products
- Ability to install accessories
- Knowledge of doors/frames and hardware
- Knowledge of architectural construction, mainly within the commercial construction field
- Knowledge of fasteners and how to determine elevations from drawings
- Assist with safety barricades
- Assist with framing
GENERAL CONSTRUCTION CARPENTER 2
A General Construction Carpenter 2 should be as knowledgeable and proficient as a General Construction Carpenter 1, but must also have the additional skills listed below.
Additional Skills:
- Ability to complete stair forming/layout of stairs
- Ability to layout and complete stud framing (wood and metal)
- Ability to read blueprints and understand details
- Ability to complete pre-layout of walls
- Ability to install frames
- Ability to install safety barricades
- Ability to work in finished environments
GENERAL CONSTRUCTION CARPENTER 3
A General Construction Carpenter 3 should be as knowledgeable and proficient as a General Construction Carpenter 2, but must also have the additional skills listed below.
Additional Skills:
- Visualize wall layout and perform proper steps to ensure accurate layout dimensions
- Meet daily with the crew to maintain a safe working environment
- Properly rig loads with proper cables or strapping for crane or forklift material handling
- Operate layout equipment
- Manage crews
- Conduct trainings
- Knowledge of architectural construction, commonly within the commercial construction field
- Ability to install casework, trim, access panels, window coverings, and miscellaneous metals
- Ability to read blueprints and scale for proper layouts
- Assist superintendent with daily planning, scheduling, safety, JSA’s, and inventory
QUALIFICATIONS FOR ALL GENERAL CONSTRUCTION CARPENTERS:
- Valid driver’s license
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to successfully pass a drug screening
- The ability to work irregular hours including weekends when necessary
- The ability to work in harsh weather conditions for long periods of time
- The ability to exert oneself physically over long periods of time without getting winded or out of breath
- The ability to use abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without giving out or fatiguing
- Willingness to commute within a 125-mile radius of Cincinnati
- COVID vaccinations may be required on some job sites
