Laborers

View Description

Level 1

The Laborer 1 position is an entry level position which graduates to more skilled level ability. The successful Laborer 1 will master the following: 

SUMMARY OF DUTIES

KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of power tools.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and best practices on a construction site.

SKILLS

  • Knock concrete down to grade.
  • Pull wire mesh.
  • Spray cure.

ABILITIES

  • Arrive to work on time daily prepared to work.
  • Clean company tools and pump pipe and clamps.
  • Responsible for carrying out all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to successfully pass a drug screening and motor vehicle review.
  • The ability to work irregular hours including weekends when necessary.

Summary of Duties:

The Laborer 2 position has mastered the essential functions of the Laborer 1 position and demonstrates an intermediate knowledge of Laborer 2 work.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of commercial concrete pump place finish.
  • Knowledge of power tools.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and best practices on a construction site.
  • Knowledge of traffic control and truck hand signs.

SKILLS:

  • The skill to tie and place steel – Must be straight, and have the proper spacing between the rebar, they must be secure. Must be three inches away from all soil when in footer.
  • The skill to operate a compactor – Must establish an eye for grade and be able to perform all laboring acts at this level.
  • The skill to hang tar paper and expansion – Set to grade and secured.
  • The skill to pull wire – Pull wire to the upper third part of the freshly poured concrete’s elevation.
  • The skill to cure (fine mist and sprayed on a consistent manner)

ABILITIES:

  • The ability to pour walls – Must be at proper elevation, rebar must not touch the wall panels, must be flat, proper rebar, smooth sides 
  • The ability to pour footers – Concrete must be dispersed in proper locations, have proper rebar, concrete must be on grade.
  • The ability to check rough and fine grades – Must have knowledge of the granular fills; must hold laser receiver plumb.
  • The ability to prep machines for pour – includes cleaning check/change blades, oiling and greasing.
  • The ability to place concrete – Placing concrete from truck.
  • The ability to operate vibrator – Must be able to operate vibrator according to specified standards.  Be cautious not to over-vibrate, must be consistent, removing any honeycombs.
  • The ability to insert footing dowels – Must be straight, in proper locations, proper width apart.
  • The ability to rake behind screeders – Rake consistently, fill holes and remove high areas ahead of the rail.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficient as a Laborer 1
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to successfully pass a drug screening and motor vehicle review.

The Laborer 3 holds the senior role in this classification. This individual is in position to assume the Level One Finisher role in the Finisher job classification.

ABILITIES:

  • The ability to layout footer and wall steel- Must be straight, and have the proper spacing between the rebar; must be secure. 
  • The ability to install waler brackets – Must be installed at proper height and in proper locations, 2 x 4’s should be set at a four foot offset in the walers.
  • The ability to operate skid steer – Must have completed the Skid steer Loader Training Course. The operator must be both safe and productive.
  • The ability to prep machines for pour – includes cleaning check/change blades, oiling and greasing.
  • The ability to float walls and footers – All voids filled, imperfections removed, humps removed, must be level.
  • The ability to Install turnbuckles – Must be installed securely and in proper locations.
  • The ability to Trowel Walls – Must be slick, on grade, imperfections removed, held at proper pitch, humps removed, voids filled.
  • The ability to assume the team lead position managing a labor crew.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficient as a Laborer 1 and 2
  • Have a certified Rigger Certificate 
  • Valid Driver’s License.

  • The ability to place anchor bolts – Begin placing anchor bolts in their proper locations sited in by a higher skill level employee.
  • The ability to set bulk heads – Must have proper support, be in proper locations, be straight, and have proper elevation.

  • Knowledge of power tools.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and best practices on a construction site.
  • Knowledge of general trade work.

SKILLS:

The skills to use a bull float- Must be stable and able to go long period of time, while maintaining good quality. Imperfections in the concrete must be removed, voids filled, and sealed and completely as possible.

  • The skill to use a hand float around clean-outs, drains, conduits, edges, etc.

ABILITIES:

  • The ability to perform a broom finish – Fine texture transverse to the flow of traffic; consistent; straight.
  • The ability to run edges – Must be straight, clean, at proper elevation, and slick.
  • The ability to check rod – Ensuring floor flatness; cut humps and filling holes
  • The ability to saw cut – Must be straight, in proper locations, must reach the edge of the box cuts at proper depth.

QUALIFICATIONS:

SKILLS:

  • The skill to joint- Must be straight, and have uniform depth, width and texture.

ABILITIES:

  • The ability to set wet grades – Must be completely flat, and on grade; must be in proper locations and properly marked with an X in the center. Two foot minimum overlap. Wet grade pad to be a two foot minimum in diameter.

Finisher 1 – Albañil De Acabado de Concreto

Los albañiles de Acabado de Concreto de Jostin poseen una carrera sólida en la clasificación laborar. El  albañil de acabado de concreto nivel 1 es la posición inicial responsable por lo siguiente:

CONOCIMIENTO:

  • Conocimiento del pompeo, vaciado y acabado de concreto comercial y contratación general.
  • Conocimiento de herramientas eléctricas.
  • Conocimiento de procesos de seguridad y mejores prácticas en el campo de construcción.
  • Conocimiento de trabajo commercial general.

ESPECIALIZACION:

  • La habilidad de usar el flotador – debe ser estable y capaz de aguantar periodos largos de tiempo y mantener buena calidad. Imperfecciones en el concreto deben ser removidas, llenar y sellar vacíos lo más que se pueda.
  • La habilidad de usar el flotador manual alrededor de rejillas, conductos , drenaje, esquinas, etc.

HABILIDADES:

  • La habilidad de realizar un acabado de cepillo –  Lograr una textura fina alineado con el tráfico de carros, consistente y derecho.
  • La habilidad en acabado de esquinas – debe de ser derecho, limpio, a la elevación correcta, y delicado.
  • La habilidad de chequear elevaciones – Asegurándose de la nivelación del piso; eliminando secciones altas y llenando huecos.
  • La habilidad de realizar cortes con la sierra – Debe de realizarse perfecto, en la ubicación correcta, debe alcanzar las esquinas del área cortada a la profundidad correcta.

Obrero 1

La posición de Obrero nivel 1 es una  posición de nivel de entrada que se asciende  a la capacidad de nivel más cualificado. El obrero seleccionado 1 dominará lo siguiente:

CONOCIMIENTO:

  • Conocimiento del vaciado y acabado de concreto comercial.
  • Conocimiento de herramientas de poder.
  • Conocimiento de los procedimientos de seguridad y las mejores prácticas en un sitio de construcción.

 ESPECIALIZACION

  • La habilidad para limpiar, apilar, engrasar, y remover paneles de pared – Cuando los paneles deben ser limpiados, todo el concreto debe ser removido lo mejor posible, todos los orificios deben ser limpiados, los paneles deben ser guardados en un lugar limpio y De manera ordenada, cuando se engrasen los paneles, todos los lados y el revestimiento debe ser completamente aceitado en una niebla fina.
  • La habilidad de escavar fundaciones – Debe tener la profundidad, ancho y limpieza apropiada.
  • La habilidad de demoler concreto hasta la elevación deseada (tener un “ojo” para el nivelado).
  • La habilidad de halar los alambres de la malla – Halar los alambres de la malla hasta la tercera parte superior de la elevación alta del concreto recién vaciado.
  • La habilidad de curar el concreto (Una capa fina y rociado de manera consistente)

 

HABILIDADES:

  • La habilidad de colocar la malla, insulación y plastico – La malla debe tener 1 cuadra solapada, plástico debe tener 2 cuadra solapada.
  • La habilidad de limpiar las herramientas de la empresa todos los días y guardarlas en el lugar adecuado.
  • La habilidad de limpiar las tuberías y conexiones de la bomba de concreto.
  • La habilidad de remover el encofrado y demolición liviana.

 

DEBERES DEL TRABAJO:

  • Llegar al trabajo a tiempo, descargar los camiones y completar actividades como sean asignadas.
  • Responsable de conectar las tuberías de la bomba de concreto diariamente.

General Construction - Superintendent

Overview

Our growing firm of approximately 75 individuals has an immediate opening for an experienced and highly-motivated Construction Superintendent.

The Construction Superintendent will report to the General Manager, General Construction Operations.

Primary Responsibilities

Responsible for running the day to day operations on the construction site and controlling the short term schedule. The Superintendent drives quality control, maintains all safety protocols and has subcontractor coordination responsibilities.

Supervise trade contractors involved in the project and monitor the quality of their work daily.

Supervise the job site to meet or exceed all OSHA requirements for personnel and property safety.

Assist the Project Manager in preparing an updating the project’s master schedule.

Inform all trade contractors and office on the status of the master schedule and provide a two-week look ahead of future work

Hold weekly safety & project meetings individually with all documentation of paperwork.

Promote a safe work environment for everyone on and off the project site.

Ensure project delivered safely, on-time, within budget and to the strictest of quality standards.

Manage all aspects of jobsite logistics, cleanup, scheduling, deliveries, laydown, hoisting, coordination, etc.

Manage the inspection process and maintain detailed inspection logs.

Assist in permit process as required.

Communicate and coordinate with all consultants, designers, engineers, municipalities, subcontractors, suppliers, utilities and other 3rd parties effectively.

Manage project closeout and punch list.

Participate in on-going training opportunities as required.

Assist the Project Manager with miscellaneous responsibilities as required.

Position Requirements/Experience

  • Minimum 5-7 years successful experience as an onsite, lead commercial construction Superintendent.
  • Strong technical and communication skills.
  • Construction document and drawing literate, with knowledge of all phases of construction.
  • Experience and proficiency in all divisions of work, methods, materials, scheduling and cost control.
  • OSHA 10 is required; OSHA 30 hour certified a plus.
  • Experience with Estimating construction projects, bid processes, assembling scope of work, and subcontractor scope review.

Minimum Education Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Preferred: BS in Construction Management, Business, Finance or Closely Related field of study.

Other Requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.
  • Some travel may be required.

Pump Operator

Summary of Duties

The Pump Operator must have a commercial driver’s license (CDL) is responsible for driving to and from pour locations and operating a concrete boom pump, keeping the truck and equipment clean and in good operating condition. This position is required to have the ability to operate concrete pumps of various boom lengths. The operator will be expected to work irregular hours including weekends when necessary. Schedules can always change at any time therefore the operator needs to be flexible and able to work overtime.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Move the pump safely to and from the job site. Ascertain that all safety and precautionary measures are put into place before, during and after each project.
    • Follow manufacturer guidelines and safety requirements.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure that concrete pumps operate in accordance with DOT regulations.
  • Evaluate site conditions and works with contractors and superintendents to park and set up the truck properly.
  • Load and unload concrete pump attachments and ensure that all associated tools are used in a safe manner.
  • Operate the pump in a safe and conscientious manner, set up the system, and clean out the pump after the job.
  • Evaluate concrete mix designs and the effects of hot and cold conditions on concrete mixes.
  • Pump concrete to customer satisfaction meeting the company’s quality standards with respect to yards per hour in the safest manner.
  • Perform maintenance on the pump. Recognize and report problems with the pump when they arise. Ensure that pump remains in good working condition.
  • Keep truck and pump washed and free of concrete and ready for next job.
  • Complete required paperwork, including but not limited to pump inspection forms, job tickets, invoices and maintenance forms.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Commercial concrete pump, place, finish.
  • Large truck operations and mechanics.
  • Safety procedures and best practices on a construction site.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Safely drive concrete pump truck on public and private roadways.
  • Operate four-section booms.
  • Troubleshoot problems as they arise on jobsite.

  • Valid CDL.

Reporting to the Division Vice President of Operations (Concrete/General Contracting), the Project Manager is responsible for all facets of project management including budgeting, scheduling, tracking, procurement and quality across multiple Concrete/General Contracting projects. Duties include coordination of multiple projects, and collaboration with other Jostin teams, suppliers, and stakeholders.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage all construction activities coordinating work and schedules with division leaders and the project team.
  • Evaluate and determine appropriate construction methods and strategy, employing the most cost-effective plan and schedule.
  • Review drawings and specifications, monitor progress, and ensure compliance with plans and schedules.
  • Assist with the preparation of competitive job estimates by interpreting drawings and bid documents.
  • Develop and write sub-contracts and purchase orders as required.
  • Establish, track, and manage project schedule ensuring critical path requirements are achieved.
  • Ensure project financial success by establishing and managing project budgets; prepare and report on job cost, actively working to ensure project profitability.
  • Work closely with operations management and Field Operations Manager to determine the resources required to meet project schedule.
  • Assist with safety compliance.
  • Ensure all project and payroll financial documentation is submitted timely throughout the work week.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • The ability to read and understand construction drawings, specifications, contracts, manuals, technical correspondence, and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of construction computer programs and software.
  • Experience in contracts and construction procurement process.
  • Firm grasp of job estimates components, the drawings, and specifications to properly relate back to the estimate.
  • Understanding of full lifecycle of contracts from initial award through contract closeout.
